How does this site work?

GrafRank is a data-mining project. Data is currently collected from Flickr (we're looking for additional sources of well-tagged graffiti imagery or other types of graffiti-data.) The GrafRank algorithm cleans up that data, smooths it, and plots it over time as a 0-100 score. A separate script maps the images that have geographic data and makes a heat map. We believe that this system provides a good proxy for fame or graffiti artist reputation, as it reflects the crowdsourced judgements of many photographers, and those judgements are statistically reflective of both graffiti artist skill and quantity of public pieces.
